Should I Be Wearing Sunglasses

April 18, 2026

A lot of people think of sunglasses as an accessory, but there is much more to them than that. While style is an important part of sunglasses, they offer protection from UV rays and are actually similar to sunscreen for your eyes. A quality pair of sunglasses make it comfortable to see in bright light conditions but there are a lot of other things to keep an eye out for when shopping for your next pair of sunglasses.

All sunglasses are not created equal and there are obviously many different price points, styles, and quality in which you can find sunglasses, but at a minimum you want to make sure the lenses protect 100% against UVA, UVB, and UVC rays. These are the harmful rays emitted from the sun and have been shown to cause many different problems with your eyes. UV rays contribute to cataracts, without protection your eyes can actually get a sunburn which is obviously unpleasant. Other studies have shown that UV light and Blue Light can contribute to Macular Degeneration, while these studies are still new and developing, a good pair of sunglasses can add that extra layer of protection your eyes need.

Polarized lenses are another thing many people look for in their sunglasses. A polarized lens helps to eliminate reflected glare that's most noticeable around water, wet roads, snow, and any bright reflected light. While many people think polarized sunglasses are only made for fisherman, they are actually great for anybody looking to maximize the benefits of their sunglasses. Polarized sunglasses are more comfortable to drive in while they can help you see into the water there are benefits in your every day life too.

Frame design is another large factor to look for in sunglasses. Not all frames are made alike, while gas station sunglasses may get you by in a pinch there's a lot to say about a well made frame that can be adjusted to fit perfectly and will hold up for many years to come. Sunglass styles are always changing and we have something for everybody at Krystal Vision, from your sporty wrap around styles to elegant styles fit for the fanciest of occasions.

Many people don't realize there are a lot of lens color options and some are better suited for certain uses than others. That's what we are here for, we can help you and show you the different options available and we can make recommendations based on what you're primary use will be. There are high contrast options like Coppers, Browns, and Roses and there are your darkest options like Greys and even in between options like Grey Greens that are dark but also help to boost contrast and depth perception without changing the true colors. You can also add a mirrored coating to darken the lens or make your sunglasses stand out from the rest!

As you can see there is a lot that goes into a good pair of sunglasses, but it's crucial to find a comfortable pair to protect your eyes. Whether you want a top of the line pair from Costa Del Mar, Raen, or many of our other brands, or if you want an affordable option that will hold up and get the job done like the styles from Tifosi, it's important to protect your eyes because you only get one set.
