Insurance for glasses can be confusing—we make it simple and help you save. While we’ve accepted major plans like EyeMed, Davis Vision, and Spectera for years, we’ve found out-of-network reimbursement often gets you a better price.
Many insurers steer you toward their own products with bigger “discounts,” but those frames and lenses can cost more upfront. By going out of network, we can often save you $100 or more. See the breakdown below.
Eyemed In Network Progressive Lens Breakdown
This is the breakdown on a popular Eyemed plan for progressive lenses, you can see that typically without insurance but going through one of Eyemed's labs these glasses would cost you $830. After Eyemed discounted these glasses it appears that they are giving you a 50% discount.
Private Pay Progressive Lens Breakdown
But now let's take a look to see what you would pay for the same frame and comparable lenses and coatings from a private lab.
As you can see it is $44.25 more expensive, but keep in mind this is BEFORE you receive your reimbursement check back from your insurance. On this particular plan you would receive an additional $125 back in reimbursement and end up saving $80.75. Every insurance plan is different and some plans will reimburse you significantly more. The plan used above is one we see often in our offices.
Insurances Accepted In Network
We do accept a handful of insurances in network. These are plans that we know we can't give you a better price by going out of network and we are all about giving you the best deal we can.
Samera Health
We also accept all plans of Samera Health. These plans are often explained as reimbursement plans but we have been told directly by Samera Health that we can bill them directly so you no longer have to wait that 4-6 weeks to receive your reimbursement, you get what they cover right up front and don't have to worry about owing anything later!
Others
There are a handful of other plans that are supplied by local companies. If you don't see yours on this list please feel free to contact us directly and we can answer any questions you may have.
Insurances We Bill Out of Network
While you may not see any of the large nationwide plans on the list above, don't worry we are able to bill these out of network for you and save you money while getting your glasses to you faster than if we billed everything in network.
Eyemed
We accepted Eyemed in network for many years, but the example above highlights why we ultimately chose to move away from it. If we can provide better value, faster turnaround times, and eyewear we feel more confident delivering, it only makes sense for us to do what’s best for our clients.
VSP
We do not accept VSP but we handle it much like Eyemed. These plans are very similar and we are often able to save our customers money while getting them the glasses they want rather than the glasses VSP wants them to have.
Spectera
Spectera is another insurance plan we accepted for many years, but over time the benefits available to our clients continued to decline. After years of dealing with lost or damaged frames and lenses arriving with incorrect prescriptions, we ultimately decided it was best to move away from the network.
The good news is we can still bill Spectera out of network for you, and just like the plans above, we’re often able to save our clients money in the long run while providing a higher level of quality, service, and customization.
Davis Vision/Superior Vision
It has been many years since we accepted Davis Vision in network, and they have recently acquired Superior Vision, which we worked with for many years as well. These plans operate similarly to the others above, but often come with significantly longer turnaround times — in some cases meaning you could be waiting months to receive your glasses.
Rather than put our clients through the extra time, hassle, and limitations, we prefer to bill these benefits out of network whenever possible. This allows us to provide faster service, better customization options, and often better overall value in the long run.
